G1 was the commonly accepted name for the sheepskin collar, goatskin leather jacket brought to use by the US Navy in the 1930s and standardized by the Navy in 1940 as the M-422A. It was made in a very dark shade of brown goatskin leather, had a mouton collar, a nickel plated zipper closure at the front, two patch pockets with flaps and buttons, with also a pen slot in the left pocket. Waistband and cuffs were made in 100% wool, the back was bi-swing plated, with armpit gusset and side seams. The lining was in rayon satin.
The Avirex G1 jacket keeps most of the original features with a new, modern fit in order to give best comfort.
